Wildcats play at NL tonight

    You might call tonight’s game at North Lamar in Paris, an early season test.
    After going 1-2 before a break for Thanksgiving, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats get back on the hardwood court.

    The Wildcats could easily be 3-0, the last two losses coming in close, overtime battles against Wills Point and Commerce.
    Sulphur Springs plays at North Lamar today, three games are slated. The freshmen play at 4:30 p.m. followed by the junior varsity at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.
    “I expect us to compete and continue to improve,” said Jeremy Josey, Sulphur Springs head boys varsity basketball coach. “We have a practice or two under out belts now and hopefully have a little more structure.”
    The Wildcats are still working players into the lineup who came over from football. The new lineup has yielded good results and added depth to the varsity and junior varsity.
    “We have a couple we are still missing,” Josey said of his team. “They will join us when they recover from some football injuries.”
    Sulphur Springs is anxious to go up against 2-0 North Lamar and see how they play on the road against a solid opponent.
    “North Lamar has a lot of size and they are returning six lettermen including several starters,” Josey said. “They have been several teams early and will be a great  challenge for us to take on.”
    North Lamar won over Anna 44-37 in recent action. The squad won at Sherman 54-49 to open the year.
    Sulphur Springs will also be involved in the Royse City varsity basketball tournament later this week.
    The Wildcats play at 11:30 a.m. Thursday against John Tyler. If they win, they meet the winner of the Forney/Greenville game at 11:30 a.m. Friday. If Sulphur Springs loses, they meet the Forney/Greenville loser at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
    Other teams in the tournament include Frisco Heritage, Conrad, Saginaw, Mount Pleasant, Rockwall-Heath, Mesquite Poteet, Hallsville, Royse City, Rockwall and Seagoville.
    In other basketball action this week, the Lady Cats will in the Winnsboro Hoop Fest Thursday through Saturday.
    Also on Thursday, the middle school teams play. The SSMS girls are at Hallsville the SSMS boys host Hallsville.
