NH boys, girls post wins over Roxton

    ROXTON —Sophomore Baile Gammill hit for 13 points while classmate Allegra Thomas added 12 to lead the North Hopkins Lady Panthers to a convincing 55-28 win at Roxton Tuesday night.

    Thomas added 13 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season. The win raised the Lady Panthers to 2-1 going into this weekends Hopkins County Hardwood Classic being held at Miller Grove and Saltillo.
    "Thomas did a great job on the boards and she hit six out of nine shots from the field," Coach Larry Tucker said. "And Gammill not only scored but she had no turnovers, which is excellent for a point guard who handles the ball as much as she does."
    Seniors Kelsey Buchanan and Chelsey Crouch added seven rebounds as the Lady Panthers had 50 rebounds to under 25 for the Lady Lions. Chelsea Houser, Miranda Rushin and Shyenne Mitchell each had six caroms.
    Crouch added eight points while Rushin, Houser, Mitchell, Buchanan and Samantha Freeman all had four points each and Brittney Flanagan had two.
    North Hopkins will square off against host Saltillo at 8 a.m. Thursday in tournament action.

    The North Hopkins Panthers got 28 points, including eight 3-pointers from Kevin Meza as they took a 71-68 win over Roxton Tuesday.
    Tarrance Berry had 17 as the only other player in double figures for North Hopkins.  Other scorers were: Silas Whaley 9, Trenton Dodd 8, Jessie Williams 6,  Alfredo Orozco 3.
    “We trailed by 17 at one point in the third period. we turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and really battled back,” said Todd Law, North Hopkins head boys basketball coach. “We kept our composure and showed mental toughnesss.”
