The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats have a home scrimmage Friday as they prepare to open the girls basketball season.
Sulphur Springs will host Rains for scrimmage action Friday at 5 p.m.

The Lady Cats, a playoff team in recent years under head coach Jeff Chapman will be trying to regain that form as they mix new players into a group of returning starters.
Many of the players are working into basketball shape and conditioning after participating in volleyball.
Some others have not participated in sports and haven’t played basketball since last season.
“We’re rusty. Right now we look kind of rough.  The players are working on remembering what they did last year,” said Chapman, Sulphur Springs Lady Cats head girls basketball coach.
Coming over from volleyball are Desi Debase, Shakoja Debase, Sarah Womack and Chaliyah Moore. Chrissalynd Person, a varsity cheerleader, is expected to play. Kasey Moore is another returning player.
“We are teaching fundamentals and trying to pickup where we left off with the players coming back,” Chapman said. “The younger players have more to learn. They are getting adjusted to our system and how we want to do things.’
Chapman said the turnout for basketball is the best in recent year with close to 30 players out for spots on three team.
“We have 13-14 freshmen and that is good,” Chapman said. “I think from that group we see some players who can help us. We have several sophomore, I think four or five juniors and the returning seniors.”
Sulphur Springs will have teams for the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity with the amount of players on each team still undecided.
“Some of the younger players have potential,” Chapman said. “We really need more ball-handers on the varsity. We are going to use a good mix of younger players with returning players. It’s good to have this many to choose from for the teams.”
