Wildcats in first basketball scrimmage

E-mail Print PDF

It was a good effort, for the first competitive basketball action of the year.

Sulphur Springs took on Princeton and Denison in a dual scrimmage Monday. Games were played at both high school gyms.
The Wildcats are playing short-handed in basketball with many starters still involved in football.
Sulphur Springs fell 17-10 to Denison and were defeated 20-9 by Princeton.
“We played extremely well to start the quarter, but committed back to back to back turnovers that resulted in either points or fouls for Denison. We struggled to keep them off the boards and take away their 2nd chance points,” Josey said.
The coach continued, “Against Princeton we lost by 20-9, same issues with turnovers and allowing easy 2nd chance points.  Standouts were Darian Dial and Johnny Morgan our two current seniors with us.  Overall, it was all positives as it allowed our JV/9th to see some quality varsity competition vs. Princeton and Denison. We were able to go against a different level of competition that we can't simulate in practice at this time and we benefited from that.  It was a practice for us, and we got better from it.”
The Wildcats  will scrimmage Saturday morning at Greenville vs. Greenville/Mesquite Poteet at 10 a.m.
The scrimmage will be held at the middle school.
Sulphur Springs will begin games on Nov. 19 against Avery at Sulphur Bluff, games are at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
The Wildcats return home for non-district action Nov. 22 against Whitewright with games at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.; on Nov. 25 the team host Commerce at home with all three teams in action, starting at 5 p.m.
Sulphur Springs plays road games Nov. 26 at Wills Point; Dec. 3 at North Lamar; they take part in the Royse City Tournament, Dec. 5-7; then play at Princeton on Dec. 10. They participate in the Wills Point Tournament on Dec. 12-14.
The Wildcats host Paris for three games on Dec. 17. Lindale comes to Sulphur Springs for three games, 9, JV, and varsity on Dec. 20. The Wildcats close out the year Dec. 27-28 in the Bridgeport varsity tournament and Dec. 31 at Longview Spring Hill. On Jan. 3 All Saints plays at SSHS for two games.
