GRAND PRAIRIE — Madison Ramirez and Carter White had the best times for Sulphur Springs in recent Region II UIL region cross country action.

In boys action — Barron Evans of Pine Tree won the individual race with a time of 16:00.40. Frisco was the first place team. District 14-4A teams included Pine Tree at sixth, Hallsville in seventh and Sulphur Springs in 17th place.
“White led the boys with a 17:43 followed closely by Jacob Gatewood with a 17:47.  Tanner Ramirez and Nathan Mabry weren’t far behind with an 18:02 and an 18:04 respectively.  These four guys have pushed each other all year and battled back and forth.  You never knew what the order would be with those four, but you knew they would challenge each other with great effort,” said Andy Holt, Sulphur Springs  varsity coach. “We will look to fight for a district championship and make a little noise at regionals next year.”
The event was held Saturday with Mansfield Legacy winning the girls 5K race. Pine Tree was ninth, Hallsville took 13th and Sulphur Springs 15th.
Holt added, “The big highlight of the day was senior Madison Ramirez. She ran a 19:57 and placed 22nd overall. This was a very good race for the senior.  This was a great way to finish a great high school cross country career for Madison. She has worked extremely hard over the years and has been one of our best runners every year she has been in high school.  She will be tough to replace.  Another senior that ran well was Kezli Cook.  Kezli came to us last year and was a great addition to the team.  Myranda Pierce also ran well.  She has gotten better all year and finished well.”
