Sulphur Springs runners will be part of the very competitive field Saturday at the UIL Region II Class 4A cross country race.
The race will be at a new site, Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake, which is located in Grand Prairie.
The address for Lynn Creek Park is 5610 Lake Ridge Parkway, Grand Prairie.
Sulphur Springs advanced to regional after the Lady Cats took second and the boys finishing third in the recent District 14-4A race in Mount Pleasant.
Members of the girls team: Kezli Cook, Caitlin Helm, Myranda Pierce, Madison Ramirez, Madeline Massey, Star Resendiz and Lauren Helm.
Wildcat runners will be: Andrew Allen, Tony Velasquez, Jacob Gatewood, Nathan Mabry, Tanner Ramirez, Carter White and Will Fain.
“It will be a very competitive race. It's regionals,” said Andy Holt, Sulphur Springs head cross country coach. “The best in the region will be there. The course is a new course, but is pretty similar to the previous course. It is relatively flat and should be a good fast course. The rain may slow things down, though. We are looking to be in the top half with both the boys and the girls. This will take our kids running well.”
Holt said, “Individually, I think we will have some boys and girls get into the top 30. If someone has a really good day, they may be close to the top 10. We want to go over there and represent Sulphur Springs well and we are going to give our best effort to make that happen.“
The boys and girls will both run five kilometer races. The 4A girls begin at 9:35 a.m. and the boys at 10 a.m.
