AVERY — Saltillo teams split recent junior games played at Avery to open the basketball season.
In the A game, Saltillo won by a 33-24 score over Avery.
Scoring for Saltillo included: Lyle Bench 17, Michael Simmons 12, Branson McGill 2, Nathan Valenzuela 2. Also playing were: Walker McGill, Jade Humphries, Trevor Moore, Hendrick Rios and Ben Moore.
Avery won the B game by a 26-13 final.
Saltillo scoring: Matthew Gurley 11, Antonio Tovar 2. Others playing were: Levi Hoover, Dalton Smith, Michael McMarty and Jace Dunlap.
“This was a good first game for us. For most of them this was their first action as ‘starters’ or with an increase in their roles,” said coach Yan Heijligers.
Pine Tree ISD
features new stadium
Wildcat fans going to football games in Longview Thursday and Friday will find a change in the landscape, a new football stadium.
Pirate Stadium is located at 1709 Pine Tree Road, games are no longer held at the field used last season.
The stadium cost $16 million and will host 6,500 fans and also features a state-of-the-art track and field facility.
For Sulphur Springs fans coming in for the game on Highway 300 from Gilmer, they are urged to take a right on Loop 281 and follow to the stadium which is located on the right.

in volleyball playoffs
Miller Grove head volleyball coach Gary Billingsley said his team is preparing for the playoffs and recently had a warm-up game. The Lady Hornets are 27-4 for the year and won first place in district with a 9-1 record. They will play the winner of Roxton/Simms Bowie in the playoffs TBA.
