It’s a showdown for fourth place and a playoff berth.
After all the volleyball which has been played this season, for the Lady Cats it comes down to one more game. A win and they get into postseason.
“Right now, we have a 2-7 record and Mount Pleasant has a 3-6 record. If we win tonight’s match, we will have a tied record of 3-7 and the head-to-head lead over them since we would have beaten them twice in district play this year. That would give us fourth place and advance us to playoffs,” said Michelle Namanny, Sulphur Springs head volleyball coach.
In an earlier meeting in Sulphur Springs, the Lady Cats defeated Mount Pleasant, 22-25, 25-21, 28-26, 25-18.
Namanny said, “I think our girls are determined and confident going into tonight’s match. Mount Pleasant is always the team to beat for us and for it all to boil down to tonight’s match is huge. I don't think we will be too worried or nervous. I think our teams match up well athletically. I haven’t hid anything from them. The girls know that our fate is determined by tonight's match. The little details have fallen into place.”
Mount Pleasant lost to Texas High in Friday action which opened the door for the Lady Cats to have a chance at the playoffs.
Namanny added, “Winning tonight and going to the playoffs this year sets the tone for what future volleyball players at SSHS should expect of themselves. This program has a ton of potential to be great, and going to playoffs is something that we should expect of ourselves, not hope for.”
Sulphur Springs and Mount Pleasant clash today at Mount Pleasant High School. The varsity game is at 6:30 p.m. with the freshmen and junior varsity opening action at 4:30 p.m.
