HALLSVILLE — The hometown Hallsville Lady Bobcats stayed undefeated in district, taking a 3-0 win over Sulphur Springs in 14-4A action Tuesday night.
Hallsville won by scores of 25-17, 25-14, 25-16 in a three-set sweep in varsity action.
“Hallsville had a lot of their returning varsity players from last year and brought a lot of match experience to the court last night. We came out strong in each set but could not finish,” said Michelle Namanny, Sulphur Springs head volleyball coach.
Statistics from Sulphur Springs reveal Katie Barnett with 4 assists and Shakoja Debase put up 7 assists. Jessye Castro had 4 kills and 1 block assist. Kennedy Potts had 5 digs for the Lady Cats.
For the Lady Bobcats - Madison Gonzalez had 11 kills while Haley Boyett added 27 assists and eight digs; Junesha Williams added six kills and Allison Lawrence turned in five kills and three blocks.
Ciara Calhoun had two digs and a service ace as Hallsville advanced to 23-9 overall, 4-0 in district.
Sulphur Springs fell to 1-3 in district, 13-16 overall in varsity play.
In the freshman match, Sulphur Springs was swept in three games.
Hallsville won by scores of 25-15, 26-24, 25-17.
Coach Jerrod Hammack said, “I am very proud of the freshmen girls. They battled all night against a very good Hallsville team. Hallsville is undefeated and has not lost a single game in a match before we beat them in game two.”
The Sulphur Springs freshmen are now 15-4 and 3-1 in district.
The junior varsity Lady Cats lost 25-15, 25-17 according to coach David Carrillo.
The Lady Cats take the court again at home Friday night against Mount Pleasant.
Mount Pleasant is 2-2 in district play.
On Friday, the varsity will play first vs. Mount Pleasant with the game beginning at 4:30 p.m.
The freshmen and junior varsity games will begin at 6 p.m.
