Lady Cats grab district volleyball win

MARSHALL — It took five sets, but Sulphur Springs recorded their first district volleyball win Friday on the road.
    The Lady Cats beat Marshall in  25-23, 13-25, 13-25, 25-19, and 15-8.

    “We brought home our first district win of the season. It was definitely a roller coaster ride throughout the entire match,” said Michelle Namanny, Sulphur Springs head volleyball coach. “We came out kind of slow at first, and in the second and third sets I think we lost some of our focus and confidence. The fourth set changed the entire game and we came out on fire. I am proud of the determination we showed on the court.”
    Statistics for the game reveal: Katie Barnett, 16 assists, 4 digs,  2 aces; Shakoja Debase, 11 assists, 3 digs; Jacey Mitchell had 5 assists, 3 digs. Jessye Castro, 9 kills, 5 solo blocks, 2 block assists, 7 digs, and 4 aces. Destiny Wade, 11 kills, 1 block assist, 3 aces: Desi Debase also put down 10 kills, 1 block assist, and 6 digs. Libero Kennedy Potts had 14 digs as well in the match.
    The Sulphur Springs JV won 25-19, 25-9.
