Lady Cats open district volleyball with loss

    LONGVIEW — Life on the road in District 14-4A proved rough for the Lady Cats.

    Sulphur Springs lost three games to Pine Tree Friday night during the district opener for both squads.
    Pine Tree won by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-13 in straight sets.
    The win gives Pine Tree an 18-11 mark overall and 1-0 in district. The Lady Cats fell to 13-15, 0-1.
    “Our main issue was consistency and being able to get around their high block. We fought in pursuit of the win but we just were not able to overcome the adversity of the match,” said Michelle Namanny, Sulphur Springs head varsity volleyball coach.
    Statistics from the game reveal: Setters Katie Barnett and Shakoja Debase put up 5 and 7 assists respectively. Jessye Castro had 3 kills and 1 block. Destiny Wade had 5 kills, 4 digs, and 1 block. Desi Debase had 6 kills and 4 digs. Kennedy Potts also chipped in 7 digs.
    The freshmen won at PT. The Sulphur Springs JV lost 25-13, 25-11.
     The Lady Cats play Texas High at home Tuesday, freshmen, junior varsity and varsity will play, first game at 4:30 p.m.
