TRENTON — Friday’s 36-0 by Cumby over Trenton, killed two birds with one stone.
Not only was it the first win of the year for the Trojans. But the win was the first ever for Tom Dracos as a head football coach.
“It will be a win that I remember forever,” Dracos said. “It’s the first win for me as a head coach and the first win this year for Cumby.”
Dracos said, “We have a great week of practice and it carried over to the game. I can’t be more proud of my team. We have improved a lot over the season and I excited about the rest of the season. We have a big homecoming matchp this week against Boles, then we start district. We must continue to work hard and play together.”
In the game, the Trojans had their best night of the year on defense.
After surrendering an average of 36 points a game, they allowed no points by the Tigers.
The shutout was the third in a row for Trenton.
On offense, Cumby had a fine night accumulating 385 total yards.
The Trojans ran 38 times for 248 yards, scoring twice on the ground posting a healthy 6.5 yard per carry average.
Quarterback Travis Taylor ran six times for 75 yards and one score. Cody Anderson also scored, running seven times for 62 yards.
Other rushers include: Nick Folse, 14 tries for 64 yards; Chase Vaughan had 21 yards on just three dashes; Dustin Heer had 14 yards on two attempts; Jamie Webb ran five times for 10 yards; Jim Webb had one, two-yard carry.
Taylor completed 6-of-10 passes for two touchdowns with one interception.
Heer caught two passes for 53 yards and a score. Folse had a 50-yard grab. Jack Jones snagged two passes for 32 yards, including a touchdown. Anderson had one catch for two yards.
