HAWKINS — It was a big night for Hawkins as they not only won 48-0, but sentthe homecoming crowd home happy despite the rain, defeating Cumby in a non-district football shutout.
Gary Roden had a game to remember for the Hawks. Roden rushed for three touchdowns and returned a punt 69 yards for another tally in the win over Cumby. For the night Roden had 83 total rushing yards from 14 carries.
Cumby, with the loss, fell to 0-4 on the season.
Hawkins put the fans at ease early taking a 20-0 lead in the first quarter.
Roden scored on a two-yard run. Emory King got a touchdown from 27-yards out. Demyrion Francis also hit pay dirt with five-yard run to glory, concluding in the end zone.
Karbaylun Tennyson scored on a 48-yard touchdown trot.
At the half, Hawkins was ahead 42-0.
Hawkins closed out the scoring with a 21-yard run by Roden.
Hawkins took the win in stride, moving to 4-0 for the year.
Cumby will face Trenton on the road, Friday, Sept. 27.
