Both county teams are trying to break out of 0-3 streaks as they take to the gridiron Friday night.

Leonard

 at Como-Pickton
It is homecoming for the Eagles and they host Leonard Friday night at Ron Heflin Field. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Leonard Tigers are 2-1 on the year. They lost to Nevada Community, 34-29 then scored back-to-back wins over Honey Grove, 42-0 and Paradise, 34-19.
Como-Pickton is winless on the year, having lost by at least 60 points in all three games.
“Practice is going great. We have a few injuries, normal for football,” said Conley Bland, Como-Pickton head football coach.
Cumby at Hawkins
The Cumby Trojans will also be going after their first win of the football season.
The 0-3 Trojans play at Hawkins Friday with the kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
Cumby lost the season opener 32-18 at Alba-Golden; then fell at home 37-7 against Celeste and to Wolfe City, 27-6.
Detroit is 3-0 after a 32-28 opening win over Big Sandy. The Hawks then rolled over Cross Roads, 55-14 and downed Detroit, 25-19.
“We are playing a very tough Hawkins team that is 3-0,” said Tom Dracos, Cumby head football coach. “They have a very good core of kids that run the football well and a quarterback that is impressive to watch.”
Dracos said, “We are having a great week of practice so far.  We are going to have to have a great week of practice and a luck to be on our side to beat Hawkins on their homecoming. Our kids are beginning to understand their roles and we are beginning to play rather than think, then play.  I am very proud of their improvements and have not seen us approaching the ceiling. This group will hopefully peak at the right time.”
Hawkins has eight offense and eight defensive starters back from a 2-8 team a year ago.
A player to watch is 6-0, 215-pound linebacker Skylar Phillips. He had 78 tackles in 2012.
On offense, Jason Hass at 6-2, 190-pounds and running back Lavon Davis, 6-4, 170 are top athletes. Tailback Drew Roden is back on the squad after leading the team in rushing last year.
Cumby beat Hawkins 14-0 in 2012.
