Lady Cats
go 3-2 in MV
    The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats went 3-2 on the weekend in volleyball competition in the Mount Vernon Tournament.

    Sulphur Springs defeated New Boston, Daingerfield, and Arkansas High and lost to Atlanta and Mount Vernon.  Sulphur Springs placed second in the tournament overall.  
    “I was very pleased with how the girls played.  They are really starting to come together and get things done on the court,” said Michelle Namanny, head volleyball coach. “We also lost to Kaufman on Friday night in three sets: 22-25, 23-25, and 13-25.  The Lady Cats take the court again tomorrow night at Royse City and have a home match this Saturday against Mineola.”
    The Sulphur Springs freshmen beat Kaufman 25-9 and 25-23; the junior varsity lost 17-25, 24-26.

Cumby splits
with Tom Bean
    CUMBY — The Cumby Lady Trojans won the varsity match, but lost in junior varsity volleyball action against Tom Bean.
    The Cumby varsity won 25-10, 25-20, 25-20. Standouts were: Candice Horrocks, 12 points, 2 aces, 7 assists, 1 block, 2 kills; Demi McDonald- 10 points, 5 assists, 2 kills, 1 block; Grace Campbell- 7 points, 3 kills, 1 dig
Madison Thomas- 6 points, 3 kills, 1 ace, 3 digs; Alex Duck- 4 points, 1 ace, 5 kills, 1 assist, 1 block; Kaylee Giles- 4 kills, 1 block; Ashley Purser- 4 points, 1 ace, 4 digs.
    The JV lost 25-22, 25-15.
Julia Goncalves, 6 points, 1 ace; Bailey Braddock, 4 points, 1 ace; Brianna Stone-12 points; Mackenzie Fyke, 1 kill and Jaycee Weatherbee, 1 point, 1 ace.
    Cumby is 13-7, they host Wolfe City Tuesday.
