COMMERCE —A&M-Commerce begins a new era in Lion football Saturday when the Lions open up the 2013 season hosting Sul Ross State at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. It marks the first game for head coach Colby Carthel who was hired as the Lions' 19th head football coach back in January.

Two former Sulphur Springs Wildcats will be involved in the game. Quarterback Tyrik Rollison, a 6-3, 220-pound junior is expected to start.  Rollison will be wearing No. 7 as he did when he led the Wildcats to 4A state championship in 2008. Rollison will be in his first game with the Lions. He earned third team All-American honors at Tyler Junior College in 2012.
Also on the roster is former Wildcat defender Jameison Dial. Dial, No. 55 for the Lions, is a 6-3, 230-pound junior defensive lineman. Dial spent two seasons at Paris Junior College.
The Lions are coming off a 1-9 season while Sul Ross went 5-5.
The Sul Ross Lobos are coming off an incredible offensive season in 2012 in which they led all of Division III by averaging 48.8 points and 580.9 yards of total offense per game. But Sul Ross heads into the season having lost its top quarterback, top-three leading rushers and top-three leading receivers.
