MOUNT VERNON — The Sulphur Springs varsity lost in three straight sets, but the sub-varsity teams recorded wins in non-district volleyball played Tuesday against Mount Vernon.
The 3A Lady Tigers are now 12-2 for the year. It was the 11th time the squad had won in straight games and shutout the opponent. Mount Vernon had a team total of 34 kills in the game.
Sulphur Springs falls to 8-8 with the defeat.
The Lady Cats lost by scores of 16-25, 26-25, 23-25.
Lady Cat head varsity coach Michelle Namanny said the team lacked confidence and consistency.
Statistics from the game reveal for Sulphur Springs - Jessye Castro, 9 kills; MacKenzie Sorley, 3 blocks; Katie Barnett, 10 assists; Kennedy Potts, 7 digs.
In junior varsity action, Sulphur Springs won by scores of 25-15, 25-23 according to coach David Carrillo.
Carrillo listed standouts as Shade Alley, McKenzie Hohenberger, Kendall Wallace, Lexie Moore, Constance Gregory, Sierra Nickerson, Molly Johnston, Ashley Brown, Sidney Dietze and Kaitlyn Cook.
The freshmen Lady Cats, coached by Jerrod Hammack, won over Mount Vernon, 25-13, 24-26, 25-19.
All three teams will in action Tuesday, Sept. 3 against rival Paris in their home volleyball opener.
