Lady cats second in consolation bracket

WILLS POINT — Sulphur Springs took second place in the consolation bracket of the recent Wills Point volleyball tournament.

    The Lady Cats went 1-2 in pool play, losing to Crandall, 22-25, 14-25; then defeating Mineola  in three sets; losing to Lone Oak, 18-25, 25-27.
    In Saturday play, they downed Quinlan-Ford, 25-15, 25-12 and won over Chapel Hill, 25-16, 25-22. In the consolation finals, the Lady Cats lost to Commerce, 21-25, 23-25 in two tough sets.
    “Overall on the weekend, Destiny Wade totaled 29 kills, 17 digs, and 4 blocks. Jessye Castro totaled 25 kills and 13 blocks. Libero Kennedy Potts totaled 28 digs, and defensive specialist Macy Johnston chipped in 23 digs. Setters Katie Barnett, Shakoja Mosley, and Jacey Mitchell chipped in 33, 32, and 15 assists a piece,” said Michelle Namanny, head coach. “The Lady Cats record is 8-7 as of the weekend and we will face Mount Vernon Tuesday night.”
    The SS junior varsity volleyball team won the Quitman JV Tournament according to coach David Carrillo.
    The Lady Cats defeated North Hopkins 25-8, 25-12 then beat Quitman 25-16, 25-19 and edged Bonham 25-22, 25-17.
    The tournament format resulted in a rematch with Bonham in the championship game in which the Lady Cats won 25-27, 25-20, 15-13.
