DALLAS — The Cumby Trojans were held scoreless Friday in football scrimmage action at Dallas Gateway.
The Gators took a 1-0 decision in the live scrimmage and won the controlled portion of the scrimmage by the same 1-0 margin.
“In the scrimmage with Gateway, we showed some good things and some bad,” remarked Tom Dracos, Cumby head football coach. “We are young team with very inexperienced players. We have a long way to go to get where we want to be. We have come a long way since the first day we were here.”
The coach noted that Cody Anderson and Nick Folse ran the ball well on offense and anchored the defense at linebacker.
Dracos said, “Offensively, we are real close to getting it all together. Every play it s one or two kids not quite right. In the spread offense, that is a killer. We will get there and when we do I think we will be a very good football team. Defensively, we are getting to the football well. We are starting to be a defensive unit, rather than 11 individuals.”
The coach added, “We are geting better every day and playing against live opponents improves us so much faster. We have a big challenge against Alba-Golden. I hope we can pull it off.”
The Trojans open the football non-district schedule Friday, Aug. 30 at Alba-Golden. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
On Sept. 6 the Trojans return home to open the year at Frazier-Lawrence Stadium. They take on Celeste at 7:30 p.m.
