BIRTHRIGHT — The Lady Hornets won two of three matches Thursday at the North Hopkins volleyball tournament.
Miller Grove downed Como-Pickton, 25-14, 25-16.
Shelbi Potts had 14 kills, Brandie McLane added 12 assists, Alma DelCastillo had 4 digs, Eden Godwin served 3 aces and Bailey Penny had 2 kills.
The Lady Hornets downed Detroit, 25-11, 25-22.
Penny had 3 kills, Kaylan Bounds added 4 kills, 2 digs.
Miller Grove lost to Prairiland, 28-30, 14-25. Potts had 7 kills, Penny added 3 kills, 4 blocks, Bounds contributed 1 kill, 2 digs, McLane had 6 assists, 1 kill, DelCastillo added 5 digs, one block and Godwin turned in 5 assists.
“We are continuing to improve. We need to learn to have short term memory during volleyball because the previous set does not carry over. The girls struggled to get back into it after playing Prairiland well in the first set. I like the progress we have made, but I am really looking forward to the next few weeks to see how much we can improve,” said Miller Grove coach Gary Billingsley.
The Hornets are 10-1 for the season.
They played Saturday in the North Hopkins tournament against either Dodd City or Leonard.
BIRTHRIGHT — The Lady Eagles lost three matches played in the North Hopkins volleyball tournament.
Como-Pickton lost 14-25, 16-25 against Miller Grove.
The Lady Eagles were defeated 20-25, 13-25 by Detroit.

East Texas Hoop fall leagues are starting soon.
Games are set in Winnsboro, Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28.
They are accepting 5/6 boys and girls, 7/8 boys and girls, JV girls and varsity girls.
Two games per day will be played Saturday, $25 per game.
