Lady Cats
ninth grade
first in tourney
    EUSTACE —  The Sulphur Springs ninth grade volleyball team won first place in the recent Eustace Tournament.

    In Thursday action, the team beat Athens 25-3, 25-14; then downed Eustace, 25-16, 25-21 and whipped Palestine 25-17, 25-13.
    During Saturday action, they downed Athens 25-6, 25-17; smashed Fruitvale, 25-19, 21-25, 15-3 and rolled over Mabank, 25-22, 25-13.

Sulphur Springs plays
at NL today
    The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats will take a short trip to Paris for a tripleheader today.
    The Lady Cats play at North Lamar with three games slated.
    The ninth grade and JV begin at 5 p.m. with the varsity beginning at 6:30 p.m.
    The varsity will play Friday and Saturday in the Wills Point Tournament.
    The first regular season home game for the Lady Cats is Sept. 3 against Paris.

volleyball results
    COMO — The Lady Eagles split recent volleyball games played.
    Como-Pickton defeated Yantis in four sets - 25-12, 23-25, 25-12, 25-7. Taelor Schepp led the way with 11 kills and 2 aces. Mikaela Jacks had 2 kills, 2 aces, 1 block and 9 assists according to Lady Eagles coach Mark Bates.
    The team competed in the Mount Pleasant tournament. The Lady Eagles lost to Mount Pleasant - 23-25, 16-25 with Schepp turning in 9 kills, Jacks had 13 assists, 3 blocks; Dian Schakel had 2 blocks. The team lost to Paris Chism by scores of 16-25, 19-25. Schepp had 8 kills, 1 block. The squad then fell to Hughes Springs, 13-25, 25-23, 6-25. Schepp had 11 kills, Jacks added 13 assists. The Lady Eagles lost to Daingerfield, 24-26, 25-23, 17-25. Splitting kills, blocks, digs and aces were Averi Cain, Taylor Williams, Ashley Matthews and Shelby Holder. Como-Pickton lost to Hughes Springs, 15-25, 21-25. Schepp had 12 kills, Jacks added 9 assists, Holder had 2 kills, Schakel, 2 blocks and Erica Grimaldi, 2 aces.
    The team lost all three games in recent action in Mount Vernon.
     The freshmen lost 9-25, 11-25. K’Lynn Skidmore had an assist and an ace.
    The JV fell, 8-25, 9-25 Jaycee Brewer had a dig and 2 aces; Myesha Buford, 1 kill, 1 dig.
    The varsity was defeated 15-25, 21-25, Schepp had 7 kills, 2 blocks.
