PARIS — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats opened softball action Monday with a bang taking a 20-0 win at Paris High School.
The Lady Cats took the win in five innings as pitchers Kaci Kennedy and Taylor Clifton combined for a no-hit, shutout win with 10 strikeouts.
Kennedy pitched the first three innings facing 11 batters, striking out seven, walking two allowing no runs to earn the victory. Clifton pitched in relief for two spotless innings, allowing no runs or hits, facing six batters striking out three.
The Lady Cats were torrid at the plate pounding out 18 hits in the rout.
Sulphur Springs started with three runs in the first inning, added two more in the second frame and then exploded for 13 runs in the third.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Lady Cats closed out the scoring with one run in the top of the fifth inning.
Katie Dodd, the slugging first baseman for the Lady Cats, knocked in four getting three hits in four at-bats with three runs scored from three doubles.
Kara Tomlinson had a three-run homer while Krista McMahan had three hits in five at-bats with three runs plated and one run scored. Catcher Maurie Lewis also ripped the ball with two hits, two RBI and three runs scored. JaMonica Hall had three singles. Brittani Crawford had one hit and one RBI with T”Kea Johnson, Bailee Speaker, Mac Morgan and Jalie Eppars also adding hits.
Paris hurler A. Rimpel was the losing pitcher.
Sulphur Springs made one fielding error in the game.
The Lady Cats host tournament play starting Thursday.
