ALEXANDRIA, La. — The Hopkins County Angels lost 9-4 Tuesday to North Carolina and were eliminated from the Dixie Softball World Series.
Hopkins County took an early lead, scoring when Calli Voorheese was knocked in by a Jasmin Tapley hit.
North Carolina scored three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. They added two more in the second inning.
Consecutive hits by Grace Magnuson, Katelyn Rusheon, Voorheese and Mariam Tran caused a rally for Hopkins County.
Later in the game, Hopkins County was only able to plate one more run. Matti Smith tripled and scored on an RBI hit by Chandler Bain.
North Carolina scored five times to take the 9-4 win.
“This was a great season and it is always tough ending with a loss, but many memories and friendship were made with some great experiences for the girls which will build for the future for these girls softball careers,” said coach Chris Voorheese. “We as coaches, are already thinking of next year as nine of these girls will have another year in Angels which should help us to be even more competitive next year. Thanks to all who have financially supported and followed our team this year. It has been an honor for us all to represent Hopkins County, Texas.”
