CUMBY — Eager players and enthusiastic coaches have been conducting good practices for the Trojans, despite the tough Texas heat.
Cumby, under new head coach Tom Dracos, has opted like most teams in the area, to go with early morning football workouts.
For the Trojans, the coaches arrive at 7 a.m. and practice begins at 8:30 a.m. following a short meeting with coaches. Practice continues until noon each day. Pads will be issued Friday for the Trojans.
Cumby is expecting close to 40 players out for football in grades 9-12. The Trojans are hoping for enough players during the year to conduct a varsity and junior varsity schedule.
The varsity squad is work toward an Aug. 17 scrimmage at Van against Tenaha.
“We had a great first day, the kids were excited and worked very hard,” Dracos said. “I am very pleased with their attitudes and efforts. The weather was just getting hot when we got off the grass. we are gong to work on it. If we mess up, we will do it again, full speed. I am very happy with the coaching staff and the way the kids worked with them.”
