ALEXANDRIA, La. — The Hopkins County Angels All-Stars took a 7-5 loss Monday at the hands of Alabama in the Dixie Softball World Series.
Coach Chris Voorheese called the Alabama team “hard hitters” as they took the lead early and had six-run third inning, which was pivotal in the game.
Hopkins County struck first with run in the opening frame. Calli Voorheese scored the first run for Hopkins County.
Neither team scored in the second frame.
Alabama took advantage of six hits in the field to tally six run in the third and go up 6-1.
Hopkins County did not give up answering with four runs in the top of the fourth.
In the rally for Hopkins County, Voorheese reached on a hit. She advanced on a steal and passed ball, scoring on a ground out by Mariam Tran. Journi Hohenberger, Jazmin Tapley, Maggi Huie and Parris Picket got hits. Makayla Buchanan drew a walk and Faith Watkins singled to the outfield.
The rally pulled Hopkins County closer, but they could not close the game. Alabama took the win by the 7-5 final.
Hopkins County will play today at 5 p.m. in an elimination game against North Carolina.

The winner of the game today will play the winner of Louisiana and Alabama.
