LONGVIEW — Sulphur Springs participants were on the winning side of the recent East Texas High School Softball All-Star games.
Lady Cat head coach David Carrillo was an assistant on the staff as the West squad took wins over the East by scores of 6-5, 4-1 in action at Longview’s Lear Park.
A total of 16 schools were represented with 28 players in the inaugural games.
The West built a 6-0 lead in the first game. Meagan McCullough of Sulphur Springs was one of four players scoring during a third frame rally. Hailey Dixon, another former Lady Cat, hurled the first four innings for the West, striking out seven. Dixon also had a two-out, run-scoring base hit in the game.
McCullough and Dixon will play softball in the fall for Northeast Community College in Mount Pleasant.
“It was a good time for all,” said Carrillo. “It was a lot of fun having the opportunity to coach all these young ladies. Hailey recorded the win in one game. Meagan did a great job in playing both games of this event. It was a good way to end their high school careers as both of them continue there softball journey at NTCC. I am very proud of them. The girls represented Sulphur Springs very well."
