Fans won’t have any doubt where they are when they attend volleyball, basketball and other events in the Sulphur Springs High School gym - it will be obvious.
Between the logos on the walls and floor, and a huge Wildcat seemingly coming out of the wall, fans will know they’re in Sulphur Springs.
The gym is in the process of being spruced up with a resurfaced and painted hardwood floor. Also graphics have been added to formerly blank walls.
Wildcat head basketball coach Jeremy Josey and Lady Cats head coach Jeff Chapman have seen the changes and like them.
“I like the Wildcat coming out of the wall... they have redone the whole gym now,” Chapman said. “It gives the gym some flavor. The improvements show support for basketball and the teams. ”
Josey said, “I think the new wall graphics look great and I am excited about the updates in the gym. It may not be worth points or win games but the new look gives our guys a sense of pride.”
Last year backboards and goals were added, new seating installed and the gym lighting was improved.
“We pretty much have a new gym,” Josey said. “It means people are investing in our programs. The kids are excited, it make them feel good to play in a nice looking gym. They know they can hold their head high at home playing in a gym like that. Kids here are excited about basketball.”
Josey and Chapman recently had successful camps with more students participating in basketball.
“We had kids involved in playing summer games. We are glad to have interest in basketball,” Josey said.
