Golfers have been busy this summer with several winning awards in tournaments.
Kip Childress of Sulphur Springs won the boys 9-10 age division at Hideaway Lake on July 21. He shot a 42 score in the event.
Sulphur Springs golfer Garrett Landers shot a 73-69-142 to win the Jeff Isler Classic. The golf tournament was held at Los Colinas on July 1-2.
Landers also won The Battle of Gentle Creek Country Club in Prosper on July 22-23. He had rounds of 74-74-148. Brody Blackmon of Sulphur Springs and Grayson Jones of Texarkana tied for second with scores of 76-73-149. Jones won the playoff for second place, Blackmon finished third.
All these golfers plus Kip’s older brother Kason (who plays for Texas A&M-Commerce) are coached by Grayson’s dad, Geoff Jones.
Landers and Blackmon both qualified for the Texas State Junior Championship with their finishes at Gentle Creek.
The Texas State Junior Championship will be held at Horseshoe Bay, Wednesday through Friday.
Horseshoe Bay Resort is located some 45 minutes northwest of Austin on Lake LBJ.
