MINEOLA — Sulphur Springs 7-on-7 teams opened league play Thursday going undefeated in varsity and junior varsity competition.
The varsity took wins over Winnsboro and Mineola. The junior varsity rolled over Mineola and Quitman. All games were played on athletic fields in Mineola.
“On the varsity, quarterbacks Larry Pryor and Parker Aguilar were accurate and played with a good tempo in both games. Cain Cody and Dillon Carpenter continue to be impressive catching the ball,” said Matt Young, varsity coach. “Defensively, Melroy Givens and Tim Monk made numerous plays along with Dekeistan Mosley and Brennan Brock.”
Young continued, “We had a very solid night on the JV, defeating Mineola and Quitman. Tanner Ramirez and Drew McCullough looked very good throwing the ball to a wide range of receivers including Cole Cooper and Derek Lamb.”
The coach added, “Defensively Scott Galarza and Bubba Hall were very active in the back end, knocking down passes.”
The Wildcats have league action scheduled for May 30 at Mineola. The games could possibly change due to the Mineola softball team continuing in the playoffs.
Sulphur Springs will be in state qualifier action June 1 in Mesquite.
The teams return to league action June 13 in Mineola.
Sulphur Springs will also take one varsity team to Tyler for a state qualifier on June 15. That tournament has been held at Lindsey Park.
