FARMERSVILLE — It was a tough night weather-wise just to watch a game, much less try to play softball on a championship level.

Wind and cold conditions hampered Saltillo as they fell 31-2 to Dodd City in Game 1 in the best-of-three game area playoff series in Farmersville Thursday night.
The Lady Hornets struck early with a 20-run first inning rally which set the tone for the chilly evening.
“The weather froze the Saltillo Lady Lions vs. Dodd City, after a very long first inning filled with errors.” said Donald Haynes, Saltillo head softball coach, “The Lady Lions couldn't rebound to get their bats going. It turned out to be Dodd City's night. Karli Brewer took the pitching loss. Jenna Wallace got the win for Dodd City. The two hits for Lady Lions were by Tiffney Goldsmith and Brewer.”
Saltillo scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning for their only runs.
Game 2 is tonight, starting at 6 p.m. in Farmersville. The third game, if needed to follow at the same location.
