MILLER GROVE — The Hornets went toe-to-toe with some of the best track teams in Class 1A and held their own at the recent regional track meet in Bullard.
Miller Grove got second place as a team in the large field of teams competing.

When the dust cleared, the Hornets have a mile relay team and three athletes competing in individual events who have earned a ticket to the state meet in Austin, May 10.
Logan Miller had a time of 11:14 for first place in the 3,200-meter run. Riley Mitchell, also of Miller Grove, came in 10th with a time of 12;06.
Titus Lehman finished second in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:07.
Miller Grove’s mile relay team made up of Quinten Stovall, Miller, Lehman and Nathan George was second with a time of 3:44.
“George had a busy but successful weekend. He finished third in the triple jump with a 40-11 jump.  He won the 800 with a 2:02. He also won the 1,600 with a 5:00 time. We had Nathan run easy in the 1,600 race to save him for the mile relay which followed the 1,600.  He ran the anchor leg of the mile relay. George was also the high point male of the meet contributing 30 points,” said Gary Billingsley, Miller Grove coach. “I am interested to see what George can run down in Austin when the speed of the races increases.
I  am very proud of these young men.  We won the 3,200, 1,600 and 800 races.  We also finished second overall out of 49 teams with only five competitors competing. We were the only non-football school in the 10 school at the meet.”
Billingsley said the athletes who have earned a slot at the state track meet in Austin are the mile relay team of Stovall, Miller Lehman and George; and individual event competitors - Miller (3,200-meter run); George, (800-meter run, 1,600-meter run) and Lehman (800-meter run).
Billingsley said the last state competitor from Miller Grove in track was 1999 when Lindsay Watson competed in the 300-meter hurdles. She finished  in sixth place.
