Steele is area
in high jump
GRAND SALINE — Como-Pickton senior Bryce Steele took third in district action and qualified for area during recent track action.
Steele had a high jump of 5-9 for third place.
In recent Como-Pickton boys action the following results include - Malik Gray was fourth in the shot put at 37 feet; Arturo Hernandez, first in the 3,200-meter run, 12:03.7; the 4x100 relay team of John Collins, Raydon Swaim, Louis Lopez and Peyton Coke were fifth in a time of 49.09; Coke was third in the 400-meter dash, 58.45; Swaim, second in the 200-meter dash, 25.14; Hernandez, first in the 1,600-meter run, 5:26.55; the 4x400 relay team of Hernandez, Wilbert Cruz, Collins and Coke, sixth, 4:11.24.
Como-Pickton’s junior varsity was fifth as team with 44 points.
BIRTHRIGHT —The North Hopkins Lady Panthers scored early and often running to an 11-0 first inning lead on the way to a 19-0 district 16A win over Cumby.
Macy Griner gave up one infield hit to get the win on the mound.
Griner, Chelsey Crouch and Ashley Garcia each had two hits for the game. Raven Sims added double for the Lady Panthers.
"It was senior night and it was a great way for Macy (Griner), Briana (Weigel) and my manager Kealey (McPherson) to end their career at home," Coach Larry Tucker said. "We still have one more game to go and then we can start working toward the playoffs."
The win left North Hopkins at 5-2 and raised their season slate 12-12-1.
They will travel to Sulphur Bluff Tuesday.
