The hundred mile journey to Texarkana today will be one of the most important road trips in District 14-4A.
The Lady Cats (18-10, 5-2) take on Texas High (21-7, 5-2) in a battle for second place in the district softball race at 6 p.m.
Both teams are trying to build momentum for the stretch run.
Texas High is coming off a 10-0 win over winless district cellar dweller Pine Tree in their last outing.
The Lady Cats had to score in the bottom of the seventh to record a 3-2 win over Mount Pleasant in a thrilling home game Tuesday.
In that contest, Hailey Dixon struck out 13. Makayla Glosson had the game-winning hit, clubbing a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh.
The Wildcats (14-8-1, 3-3) take on Texas High (14-9, 2-4) in a 7 p.m. Friday contest.
The junior varsity Wildcats will play at home against Texas High at 4:30 p.m. followed by the 7 p.m. freshman game at Eagle Stadium.
Concerning the varsity game, Sulphur Springs head baseball coach Jerrod Hammack said, “I believe we are playing well right now. We will go and compete hard at Texas High. Jordan Jackson will be on the mound for us. Jordan threw well his last outing and we expect him to continue that. Texas High is a quality opponent in a tough district. I just want us to compete, minimize mistakes, and take advantage of opportunities that we will have in the game.”
