The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats took third in the District 14-4A golf tournament, narrowly missing a trip to regional.
Victoria Chapman had rounds of 84 and 85 for 169 total finishing third as an individual. She will compete in regional as a medalist. She also was named first team all-district.
Other scores from the team include - Kendall Wallace, 105-95-200; Sarah Rost, 99-102-201; Alexis Stribling, 103-103-206; Morgan Owens, 103-109-212.
Texas High won the team total with a 342-328-670 score. Pine Tree was second, turning in a 363-364-726 scoring with Sulphur Springs third at 389-385-774.
The Sulphur Springs Wildcats golf team staged a late rally to second place behind Texas High in district and win a place in regional. Texas High had 620 total from round of 317 and 303. Sulphur Springs came in a total of 620, firing a 307 on the second round after posting a 316 the first day. The Wildcats edged out Hallsville, which had rounds of 303 and 327 for a 627 score.
Individual scores for Sulphur Springs include - Zachary Blackmon, 69-71-140, second place medalist, second in district; Garrett Landers, 79-74-153; Brody Blackmon, 76-78-154; Cody Dennis, 90-86-176; Hadin Sickles, 98-91-188.
The team advances to regional tournament at Texas State Golf Course in Euless, April 17-18.
Coach Ross Funk said, “We had great final nine holes to finish the tournament. They have shown a lot of grown throughout the season and I believe that will be beneficial at the regional tournament.”
