The Sulphur Springs tennis team competed in recent action held in Tyler.
Luke Penny and Cory Wright lost in the quarterfinals in the consolation round. Also in boys doubles, Robert Stevens and Zack Adams played well, but lost in the semifinals of the championship bracket. Dakota Painter and Dillon Smith teamed to make the semifinals in consolation bracket.
In mixed doubles, Shelby Canter and Cade Winborn lost in the semifinals of consolation bracket. Kadi Moore and Garrett Swatsell lost in the consolation final.
Girls doubles action revealed Alejandra Lira and Karen Mora lost in the consolation bracket.
In girls singles, Sarah Forsman was defeated in the quarterfinal round of consolation.
“Overall the team has shown great improvement and continues to get stronger each week. This was another good perforamance by the team in a very tough tournament,” SSHS head tennis coach James Lovett.
The tennis team plays at Kilgore on Saturday.
Senior Sulphur Springs running back Ryan Young has agreed to play football at the United States Air Force Academy.
Head football coach Greg Owens said he will officially sign next week.
Young played one season at Sulphur Springs after transferring from Alba-Golden.
The Sulphur Springs boys - winners of two meets - will compete Saturday in the Emory Rains powerlifting event.
The Sulphur Springs boys will scrimmage Friday at Lindale. The JV scrimmages at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6 p.m.
The Sulphur Springs girls host North Forney Friday at 5 p.m. in a scrimmage at the high school diamond.
