CUMBY — North Hopkins needed a district win and Macy Griner came through big time.
Griner sat Cumby down Friday, throwing a no-hitter in district softball action with the Lady Panthers winning 16-0.
The senior hurler struck out three and was backed up by flawless defense.
Griner only allowed one base runner as hit one Lady Trojan with a pitch.
"Macy pitched a great game and our defense did a good job making plays," Lady Panthers coach Larry Tucker said. "We started hitting the ball in the gaps and were able to score some runs."
The game was scoreless going into the top of the third.
North Hopkins got started with a Baile Gammille home run to the gap in right-center. Briana Weigel followed with a triple and North Hopkins scored eight more times on five hits in the inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, Cumby got the first two batters to ground out, but an error on another ground ball by Raven Sims opened the door for a seven-run two-out rally to make it 16-0. In the bottom of the inning Brittney Flanagan, Chelsey Crouch and Griner each made plays to end the game.
North Hopkins raised its district record to 3-1, behind district leader Saltillo at 4-0. Cumby is in third place at 1-3.
The Lady Panthers are 9-10-1 for the year. North Hopkins will host Sulphur Bluff April 12 at 4:30 p.m.
