SS netters compete in Van Tournament

    VAN — Sulphur Springs tennis team members competed in the recent Van Tournament.

    Caitlyn Wilson lost to All Saints 8-3 in the first round of girls A singles. She fell 8-3 to  Hallsville in the consolation round.
    In girls B singles, Caitlan Nixon fell to Center, 8-2 in the first round. She got a bye to semi-finals of consolation and was defeated 8-3 by All Saints.
    In boys A singles, Blake Isham blanked Brownsboro, 8-0. He lost in the quarterfinals to Argyle, by an 8-0 score.
    In girls A doubles, the duo of Emily and Mallory Martin played the No. 1 seed and lost 9-7 in a competitive first round match. The girls lost in consolation, 8-5 to Edgewood.
    The girls doubles team of Grace Horton and Morgan Sutton by 8-4 to Wills Point in the first round of B competition. Horton and Sutton took an 8-2 win over Brownsboro and won 8-3 against Mineola. The pair lost in the consolation finals, 8-3 to Whitehouse.
    In boys A doubles, Ryan Wilson and Johnathon Philo lost a first round match 8-0 to Nacogdoches. Then lost to Spring Hill in consolation, 8-0.
    In mixed doubles A  action, Jayce Johnson and Magan Smith lost a first round match to Spring Hill, 8-1 and lost to Spring Hill 8-0 in consolation.
    Mixed doubles B competition, saw Ricky Noriega and Caroline Burns lost 8-0 to All Saints in the first round. They were defeated 8-0 by Spring Hill in consolation.
    “Overall it was not a great tournament as far as results. Weather did play a small factor, but our performance level was not where it could have been,” said Randy Namanny, SSHS tennis coach. “Coming off spring break and not having a tournament in a matter of two weeks can really break the momentum we have built.”
     The junior varsity tennis match is Wednesday in Texarkana.
    Varsity district tennis is April 9-10 in Texarkana.
