NH Panthers
beat Saltillo

BIRTHRIGHT — After falling behind Saltillo 4-2 on a questionable home-run, the North Hopkins Panthers exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 7-4 advantage.
The Panthers then pounded out seven more runs in the fourth inning on five hits to take a 14-4 five-inning mercy rule district win.
Freshman shortstop Austin Oldham banged out a perfect 3-3 day to lead the Panthers at the plate. Fellow freshman Alfredo Orozco had a 2-2 day at the plate with senior Dakota Jones adding a triple and a single for a 2-4 day.
Silas Whaley took the win on the mound giving up just three hits while fanning nine Saltillo batters. The victory raised the Panthers to 6-2 in district maintaining a first place tie with Sulphur Bluff, Cumby and Roxton.
"As long as we play solid fundamental baseball on defense and keep hitting the ball, we can play with anybody," Coach Timmy Henderson said.
The Panthers fell Tuesday at Roxton 12-5. North Hopkins had seven hits, all singles in the defeat.
