Wildcats lose at Mesquite

    MESQUITE — The Sulphur Springs Wildcats lost a non-district baseball game 13-2 to Mesquite Horn.
    The game was played on the turf at Tillery Field with all the breaks going against the Wildcats Saturday afternoon.

    Mesquite Horn scored twice in the first inning and then went on a hitting benge, putting up seven runs in the second innings to take a commanding 9-0 lead.
    Sulphur Springs responded with two run in the top of the third. Which turned out to be all the runs they would get on the day.
    The Jaguars answered with two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to close out the game with the 13-2 win.
    Sulphur Springs allowed 11 hits on the day.
    Southpaw starting pitcher Jordan Jackson faced  11 batters. He allowed three runs, two of those earned, he walked two and gave up two hits in 1 2/3 innings.
    In relief, Ben Brook faced 18 batters, giving up 10 runs, five earned runs, off eight hits and two walks. He struck out two in 2.1 innings. He gave up a double and a home run.
    Cole Hill knocked in two runs with a double; Garrett Hood had a triple. Getting one hit each were Larry Pryor, Zach Miller and Brooks.
    “We did not show up to play.  We played like we did not want to be there. With that being said, I fully expect our guys to be ready to play Hallsville,” said Jerrod Hammack, Sulphur Springs head baseball coach.
    The Wildcats (11-6-1) return to district play.
    They take on state-ranked Hallsville Tuesday at  7 p.m. on the road.
