PARIS — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats evened their record at 4-4 in district, ending the regular season Friday with a 9-0 win over North Lamar.
Sulphur Springs scored six times in the first half and cruised to the win with three more goals in the second half.
Esmeralda Sanchez had two goals and one assist. Hannah Schulz and Grace Grafton had two goals each. Katie Huff had one goal and two assists. Iris Gutierrez and Myranda Pierce had one goal each in the rout.
The Lady Cats JV won 2-0 and went undefeated in district.
The Lady Cats varsity (10-10-4) advanced to the playoffs and will face Carrollton Creekview (16-3-3) at 6 p.m. in Forney.
“The girls just came out very focused and motivated for the game,” said Jesus DeLeon, Lady Cats head soccer coach. “It was bad luck on North Lamar’s part they are suffering with a rash of injuries. That allowed us to have a really good offensive game.”
DeLeon added, “Now we move into the playoffs and they (Carrollton Creekview) are going to be a tough matchup. But we go into the playoffs on a two-game winning streak with good rhythm.”
