The North Hopkins Lady Panthers rolled to their second District 16A win with a 17-1 win over Sulphur Bluff Friday afternoon.
North Hopkins scored 11 runs on six hits in the top of the first inning to streak to the early advantage.
Senior hurler Macy Griner held the Lady Bears to four hits in the four inning game. Senior Briana Weigel banged out a 3 for 4 day at the plate with sophomore Ashley Garcia adding a perfect 3 for 3 day. Garcia also made a running catch on a ball deep to left field to halt a Sulphur Bluff rally early on the contest.
"I am very proud of this team. We only have two seniors and our younger girls are really stepping up," Coach Larry Tucker said.
Chelsey Crouch continued her torrid pace on offense with a 2 for 3 day giving her 10 hits in her last 11 trips to the plate. Sarah Weatheread also added a 2 for 2 day for the Lady Panthers.
North Hopkins will travel to Saltillo next Tuesday to face the Lady Lions at 6 pm with first place on the line.
