The weather forecast might not be great, but Sulphur Springs will be one of the teams participating today in the Champion Motors Wildcat Relays in Paris.
Other track teams slated to attend include - Paris, Canton, Clarksville, Mount Pleasant, North Lamar and Rains.
The field events start at 2 p.m. and the running finals at 4:30 p.m.
Sulphur Springs will field teams in the boys and girls varsity division and junior varsity team.
“I expect us to continue to improve our times and marks at Paris, weather permitting,” said Matt Young, track coach. “Again, it will be a fast meet with solid competition. I feel like we are starting to come together as a team as district nears. But we are continuing to finalize a couple of spots on relays and different races. As always, we go to the meet, to win the meet.”
The Wildcats will be participating in two divisions.
“I think we will compete very well on both levels. This is our first meet to be able to enter a junior varsity team, so I think it will be good for us,” said Triston Abron, track coach.
The coach continued, “There are several fast 3A schools there including Paris as well as fast 4A schools. Our girls are improving on times, jumps, throws and vaults weekly. Which is what we ask from them. I want us to go and continue to improve on all of the things I stated earlier. It is nice and good to win an overall team plaque or trophy. But I want these young ladies to keep getting better each week and the plaques and trophies will take care of themselves.”
