Sulphur Springs softball and baseball teams will be in important district play today on the road at Mount Pleasant
The Lady Cats, 1-0 in district, 14-8 on the year, will take on the Lady Tigers.
The girls junior varsity softball game is set for 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
Mount Pleasant is also 1-0 in district play. The squad mashed Pine Tree, 10-0 to open 14-4A play Friday.
The Lady Cats blanked Marshall, 6-0 in their district debut.
“We have seen them play in a tournament. They have a good team, this will be a good test for us,” said David Carrillo, Sulphur Springs head softball coach.
The Wildcats will play at varsity only contest at 7 p.m. in Mount Pleasant.
Mount Pleasant will take on the Sulphur Springs sub-varsity teams today at Eagle Stadium. The ninth grade plays at 4:30 p.m.; the JV game at 7 p.m.
The teams played recently, with the JV falling to Crandall, 4-1. The freshmen won both ends of a doubleheader against Crandall, 9-1 and 8-2. Tyler Follis and Kaden Moore saw pitching action.
Concerning the varsity district opener, Sulphur Springs head coach Jerrod Hammack remains certain the team will play well.
The Wildcats are 10-4-1 overall riding a five-game win streak.
The Tigers are 9-5.
Hammack said, “I believe our team is hitting our stride at just the right time. We feel like we can play with anyone when we are at our best. Mount Pleasant is going to be a challenge, particularly over there. However, we are up to it. Jordan Jackson is starting on the mound.”
