Sulphur Bluff 11,
Eight different hitters had at least one RBI as Sulphur Bluff rolled to an 11-8 home win Friday over Roxton in baseball action.
Blake Brown was the winning pitcher in the game. Brown threw 6 1/3 innings with Collin Williams getting the final two outs.
Dakota Emerson knocked in two going 1 for 3. Cade Argenbright slapped a solo homer in the game. Williams was 1 for 3 with a double, sacrifice and one RBI; Justin Goldsmith went 2 for 4 with a double and one run plated. Hunter Powers, Clay Mitchell and Landon Earley each had doubles and one RBI; Brown was 1 for 3 with a run batted in. Erin Zeringue was 1 for 4 in the contest.
“Our boys did a great job of seeing the ball. We had quality at-bats and moved the runners when we needed to,” said Blake Hill, Sulphur Bluff head baseball coach.
North Hopkins 4
CUMBY — Colton Speights picked up his third win of the season, pitching a complete game over district rival North Hopkins.
Speights allowed four hits and struck out three. He gave up one unearned run.
D.J. Lackey had the big blast, a solo homer in the fourth inning which tied the game. Lackey also belted a double.
The Trojans scored three runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Charlie Potts. Dustin Heer and Potts scored on Justin Smith’s double off the wall in left.
“Colton came up big for us,” said Scott Mabe, Cumby head baseball coach. “Lackey’s home run to tie the game was huge.”
Cumby, 6-2 overall, 4-1 in district, will travel to Saltillo for a 4:30 p.m. Tuesday game.
