LINDALE — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats finished the Lindale Tournament on a positive note, taking a 6-4 win over Central Heights.
The Saturday win improved the Lady Cats record to 11-8.
Against the Blue Devils, the majority of the damage was done by the bottom third of the Lady Cats’ batting order.
Sulphur Springs did all their scoring in the bottom of the third inning.
Central Heights scored twice in the fourth and added two more in the sixth.
Sulphur Springs had seven total hits with no errors. Central Heights connected for five hits and had two miscues.
Kiara Johnson had two hits, two knocked in and one run scored from the No. 6 slot. Haylee Chester had one hit, two RBIs while Kaylee Anderson was 1 for 3 with one run scored. No. 9 hitter Toni Cody also contributed a hit. Hailey Dixon pounded out two hits in the win. Dixon hammered a double, which was the only extra base hit for the Lady Cats on Saturday.
Dixon was also the winning pitcher for Sulphur Springs. She threw 86 pitches, 62 for strikes. In the game she faced 24 batters in six innings. She gave up five hits, four runs, all earned, walking two and fanning 10 batters in the game.
The Lady Cats host North Lamar/Crandall on Wednesday. The first game is slated to start at 11 a.m. at the SSHS diamond.
