BIRTHRIGHT — The North Hopkins Panthers are off to a 6-0 start in the baseball season with recent wins over Detroit, Celeste and Sulphur Bluff.
The Panthers won 9-5 at Sulphur Bluff in Friday action.
Kevin Meza knocked in three runs with a double. He also scored twice and swiped three bases. Cody Nix had a double and a single and two RBIs in the win. Jessie Williams was 3 for 4 with three singles, one stolen base and one RBI. Silas Whaley, Blake Adams, and Dakota Miller had one hit, one RBI each.
Whaley was the winning pitcher, striking out 11 in four 2/3 innings. Meza finished the game pitching in relief.
The Panthers won 9-5 at home against Celeste. The winning pitcher was Austin Oldman. Meza pitched in relief.
Meza and Rheston Sills had doubles, Dakota Jones and Alfredo Orozco drove in runs.
In other recent acton, Orozco was the winning pitcher when the Panthers riped Detroit, 19-6. Meza belted a single and RBI. Nix had one run plated and scored three times. Carlos Delgado also knocked in a run in the rout.
“We’ve had good pitching and hitting. We have a home district game Tuesday against Miller Grove at 4:30 p.m. It should be a good game,” said Timothy Henderson, North Hopkins head baseball coach.
