HALLSVILLE — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats won 64-47 here Tuesday to take a sweep over Hallsville as they get in gear for a playoff run.
The 14-4A win allowed the Lady Cats to finish the regular season with a 6-4 mark, winning twice over the Lady Bobcats.
"We had the lead and we held it for most of the game. We had our high/low game working pretty well against Hallsville," said Jeff Chapman, Sulphur Springs head girls basketball coach.
Point guard Desi Debase had 19 points while sophomore post Destiny Wade added 18. Chrissalynd Person added 11 including several clutch shots from the outside.
"We got good play from everyone, it was a good game for us," Chapman said. "Desi scored on the outside and from some runouts. Wade dominated play inside with Kasey Moore. Shakoja Debase and Person played well. It was a good game."
Chapman said, "I think our defense keyed it for us. We got lots of points off turnovers. We forced Hallsville into making mistakes and we took advantage of it. We scored and kept the pressure on them. I was pleased with our scoring, this is the third game in district we had over 60 points, that's good. I feel like with our defense we have a good chance to win if we score at least 50 and hold other team to 40 or less."
"We had a couple of let downs in the game when we got sloppy. We had a few lulls, but overall our effort was very good," Chapman said. "We put defensive pressure on Hallsville the whole game."
Sulphur Springs scoring - Chrissalynd Person 11, Sarah Womack 4, Destiny Wade 18, Kasey Moore 4, Shakoja Debase 8, Desi Debase 19.
Next up - playoffs to be determined from 13-4A.
