Key district games are on the schedule tonight as the Wildcats and Lady Cats take on Mount Pleasant opponents.
The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are at home against the Tigers with the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity set to play beginning at 5 p.m.
Mount Pleasant comes into the game with a 4-1 district record, tied with Marshall for first place. The Tigers lost to Pine Tree 37-32 in their last outing.
The Wildcats are 0-5 in district play, 6-22 overall. Sulphur Springs lost 83-68 at Marshall in their last outing. Isaiah Lacy had 14 points for top scoring honors.
The game starts the second round of district for the Wildcats. Sulphur Springs lost 65-38 at Mount Pleasant on Dec. 11 to begin loop play.
The Lady Cats will be on the road with games set at 5:30 (junior varsity) and 7:15 p.m. (varsity) in Mount Pleasant.
Sulphur Springs is riding the crest of a three-game winning streak with three games left in the regular season. The Lady Cats are 22-9 overall, 5-2 in District 14-4A action.
The squad is coming off a 76-32 win over Marshall in a game bordering on bizarre. The contest ended with the Lady Mavs was only able to put three girls on the court after four starters fouled out from their limited roster. In the win, the Lady Cats got a 30-point, 14-steal performance from speedy point guard Desi Debase. Shakoja Debase had two 3-pointers and a total of 16 points. Post players Kasey Moore and Destiny Wade came up big. Moore had a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards. Wade scored 10 points, pulling down 8 rebounds.
In the first meeting between the two teams, Sulphur Springs took a home loss by a 40-37 final in a tightly-contest game. The visiting Lady Tigers coming from behind to nab the road win.
Mount Pleasant is 6-1 in district, tied with Texas High for top honors in the girls race. Sulphur Springs is 5-2 and third in the standings, but hoping to shake up things with a win. The Lady Tigers won Friday over Pine Tree by a 42-18 score. Last Tuesday, Mount Pleasant won 54-38 over Hallsville.
