The big crowds in the Sulphur Springs multi-purpose building Saturday were a good sign, according to coaches at the recent powerlifting meet.
Athletic director Greg Owens reported 19 teams participated in the event with 272 lifters (187 boys, 85 girls) competing in the event.
“It was the largest meet we’ve hosted in six years,” Owens said. “We had a great turnout and a large number of fans. It was very competitive. The Sulphur Springs kids competed well.”
Owens added, “Special thanks to Mr. Michael Lamb - meet director; Leslie Harred and Karen Phillips for running concession stand, and coaches, kids, softball girls for doing all the meet duties. It was a very successful meet.”
The Wildcats took seventh place overall in the meet. Lindale won the top honors with Emory Rains taking second and Denison took third.
