The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats took a tie in Thursday soccer action and lost twice Friday in the North Forney Tournament.
“We played 5A North Garland Thursday. We fell behind after our own defender deflected a ball into her own goal. But we had been setting the tempo and evened it up before halftime on a goal by Esmeralda Sanchez. In the second half, North Garland pulled ahead but again our steady midfield play led to a goal by Grace Grafton to make the final 2-2,” said Jesus DeLeon, Lady Cats head soccer coach.
The Lady Cats had tough luck in Friday action.
“On Friday we played a very good Forney team. We played toe to toe with them but they were able to score one goal in the second half to edge us 1-0,” DeLeon said.
In the last game Friday, the Lady Cats played Dallas Wilson, losing 2-1.
“In our last game against Dallas Wilson things got off to a good start senior captain Emalee McMillan saved a penalty kick. Katie Huff then slipped through the defense to give us a 1-0 lead. Wilson fought back and gained the lead 2-1 and bunkered in. We played very well getting 9 shots on goal but we were unable to pull even. Overall we played well against strong opposition and are demonstrating a lot of growth that will benefit us in district play.’
The Lady Cats host Chapel Hill Tuesday.
The junior varsity game is at 5:30 p.m., varsity at 7 p.m.
The Lady Cats are 4-5-3 for the year.
